Tobias Hellkvist had a remarkably busy 2017. He started the year with the Home Normal releases of 'Vesterhavet (Extended)' and 'Kaskelot: Reissue and Remixes'. These were immediately followed by the 3" mini-CD release of '24th Impulse' on ÈTER, his collaboration 'Skimmer' with Ben Fleury-Steiner, and 'Forest Psalms' on Dragon's Eye, all released by April. Tobias was then EMMY nominated for his sound design work for Lego, eventually winning at The Music+Sound Awards. You can stream the mighty 'Vesterhavet (Extended)', including the remarkable 12 minute Warmth remix, below:
Justin Walter - Unseen Forces
I'm not keeping up with Kranky releases these days, however Justin Walter somehow managed to find me both times. And this latest one is one of my favorites this year, no doubt.
Thank you Tobias!
William Ryan Fritch - Behind The Pale
Really love his music and specifically how this album sounds - quite mysterious an obscure, and yet so natural - the instrumentation is elegant and tasteful. Weirdly, this music captivates me, yet flows through me like it was never there. Beautiful stuff.
Scott Walker - Climate of Hunter
A late discovery. An older, truly interesting album with lots of unexpected harmonies, twists and turns.
Laraaji - Meditation No 1
Quite a newcomer to Laraaji and his zither/dulcimer compositions. I think there are quite a few gems among his works and this is one of them.
